Meklit's Enchanting Ways...

Meklit Hadero is one of my favorite people I have crossed paths with while living in San Francisco. Her voice and warmth have amazed and enchanted me since first seeing her perform at the Red Poppy Art House in the mission. I have been fortunate to listen to her and photograph her many times over the past few years and watch her music develop and bloom. This is one image I took while she was performing at the De Young Museum awhile back. Bridget + Dave

Time flies and I have not yet posted images from this beautiful, sun-filled wedding on the beach. Bridget and Dave were such a warm, easy-going and kind couple to photograph throughout their wedding in the Florida Keys. Some sweet moments I remember from the day were the fresh coconuts served to all of the guests upon entering the reception and that everyone danced barefoot in the sand to a great live band late into the night. I recently heard the exciting news that they moved to New York City and are expecting their first baby this March! I look forward to being in touch with them for years to come and photographing their growing family this Summer when I visit the East Coast. For now here are some images from their sweet wedding...

I was so fortunate to spend a few tender moments photographing baby Emma with her mama when she was only a few days old this Winter. She was born directly into her father's arms, just before New Years Eve in Lake Tahoe, California. Emma has the most loving and amazing family surrounding her, Joel, Linda & Jaden are all incredible! I know she will follow an adventurous path full of health and sweetness. She arrived a little early and weighed less than six pounds. Holding her tiny body reminded me of how fragile and precious this life truly is...

France + Eythor ~ June 21st, 2010

Here are a few images from France and Eythor's beautiful wedding in San Francisco. They were married on June 21st, on the Summer solstice, which is also my birthday! Their ceremony took place at City Hall and the reception followed at Greens in the Marina. It was an intimate group and the day was filled with love. I feel fortunate that I have developed a sweet friendship with both France and Eythor since their wedding day. I have had many opportunities to photograph them as well. I have taken images of their adorable twins, Sven and Ava. I have photographed France's beautiful cats for her business holiday card (www.bonvoyagepetsitting.com). Kelly has been like a sister for my entire life, so it was such an honor to photograph her wedding. I am so happy for the sweet life she has created with Ronald (and his adorable son Charlie). They have such a kind and loving relationship and Ronald worships everything about Kelly, which makes us all so happy. Here are some of my favorite images from their wedding last Summer in Vermont. I recently tried using my friend Jan's 4x5 camera for the first time. In this world of digital photography and taking thousands of photographs, it was so nice to really slow down, be deliberate, and to take only a few images. Here are two of his family that I really liked.

Kite Surfing

I can feel Spring in the air and it makes me anxious to gather my kiting gear and get ready for another season of playing in the waves and water. I finally bought a new wetsuit this year after having my last one for 7 years. I am so excited to kite as much as possible this year and hopefully explore some new locations around the globe with warm water and wind: Vietnam, Mexico, Uruguay... I will take more photos of the kiting scene around the Bay Area this year as well, here are a few from the past for now.

It was great to photograph and enjoy wonderful music from so many artists at the recent fundraiser for Haiti at the Independent!

SILA and the Afrofunk Experience (www.victorsila.com) was the headliner and Meklit Hadero (www.meklithadero.com) started the night. She is one of my favorite local performers, originally from Ethiopia, her amazing voice and energy are always so powerful!

The Haitian Afro-Caribbean band Kalbass Kreyol was also outstanding and they played a series of benefit concerts to raise money to rebuild Haiti following this show at the Independent. (www.kalbasskreyol.com)

Yosemite Wedding...

I just received a very sweet and very tiny letter in the mail from the mother of the groom from a wedding I photographed near Yosemite this past June. (www.worldssmallestpostalservice.com) You needed a magnifier to read this note: "We LOVE the wedding photos... Devin and Katherine look so happy! You caught all the details and textures and mood and made it all look so natural! You were like little elves running from tree to tree. We loved having you up at the lodge with us. Getting the little card reminded me of their wedding weekend in Yosemite where it hailed and rained only a few moments before the ceremony, but everyone had such a great attitude and a wonderful time...

As Green As It Gets!

"As Green As It Gets" is a non-profit organization focusing on economic development and environmentally sustainable agriculture in Guatemala. They partner with producers from impoverished Guatemalan communities and select the families based on their potential to produce marketable products. I am excited to have become acquainted with a amazing organization and I was fortunate to photograph many of the people working with this group.

Recently a group of my images were featured on their website and I feel honored to be a part of the growth and promotion of the many developing businesses this organization supports. Being an avid coffee drinker I feel very grateful for people like Timoteo, who work extremely hard to produce very delicious coffee in Guatemala.

Traveling for Weddings!

I was fortunate to travel over the past few months to many places, I visited Colorado twice to photograph weddings in Durango & Estes Park. I spent time in the Florida Keys for a wedding in Key Largo. And I visited my home town of Stowe, Vermont while in town for a wedding that took me to the top of Jay Peak.
